March 17th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The National Democratic Movement (NDM) led by Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin disowned – on Friday – a senior military officer who defected to the Federal Democratic Party (FDP/A) led by Gabriel Changson Lew Chang.

On Thursday, Gen. Alor Kiir Atech, who was a military officer for the NDM claimed he was a deputy commander of NDM forces before declaring his decision to join the FDP/A led by Changson Chang and accused Dr. Lam of dictatorial tendency.

Alor said he was a Major General. However, in a statement issued on Friday, the NDM spokesman David Lawrence Lual said they don’t have ranks such as Major General, Brigadier General or its kind in their ranking system. He said they instead use the ‘Alternate Commander’ for senior officers.

“Our military ranking system does not have ranks such as Maj. General, Brig. Gen, etc. as came in his statement. Therefore, Mr Alor Kiir’s claim to have been a Maj. General in the NDM forces is a further proof of his concoction simply because we don’t have such a rank,” Lual said.

Lual however admitted that Gen. Alor was in their forces but walked away when he was not given the Major General rank which he insisted he was prior to his rebellion and defected saying the last time he was in the NDM was in December last year.

“The military command council decided to integrate him at the rank of (Alternate Commander) which suits his qualifications and experience. He was not pleased, rejected the offer and walked away in December 2018. That was the last time we saw and heard about him,” he added.
