July 21st 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A lady who has been allegedly detained at a national security service (NSS) facility in the capital Juba has died, members of her family said on Saturday.
One family member told the Nyamilepedia on Saturday that Atong James died last week at unidentified national security facility in Juba after having been put under torture since her arrest in early May following a call for a nation-wide protests against the government of President Salva Kiir Mayardiit.
The family member claimed the authorities at the national security facility were preventing them from accessing the body of the deceased.
“She died last week at the facility but until now, we are not allowed to get the body maybe because they don’t want us to know what had really happened to her,” the family member told this website from the capital Juba on the condition of anonymity.
Last May, several social media activists were arrested in Juba by the government for supporting the nation-wide protest called for by the youth to try to oust President Salva Kiir from power.
Last month, a man arrested in Western Bahr El-Ghazal’s Wau for having links to protest group, Red Card Movement (RDM), died after exposure to torture, according to family members.
