Khartoum, Sudan
January 13, 2022—The breakaway SPLM/A-IO Kitgwang faction, under the leadership of the former SPLA-IO Chief of General Staff, Simon Gatwech Dual has began negotiations with a delegation from the South Sudan government in the Sudanese capital Khartoum on Tuesday.
The government delegation was headed by President Salva Kiir’s advisor on security matters, Tut Gatluak Manime.
In a statement seen by Nyamilepedia, James Kalany Mamoun, the press secretary for the office of the interim head of the KitGwang faction says, the negotiations began on Tuesday at the Sudanese Military Academy.
Mamuon said Gen. Gatwech’s team was led by Samuel Morris Oraj.
The opposition official revealed that the Tuesday’s session was inaugural, and talks would officially start on Wednesday.
“The negotiations are chaired by Sudan, as the head of IGAD,” Kalany said in a statement.
Last year, in an exclusive interview with Radio Tamazuj, the ring leaders of Kitgwang Declaration, Gen. Simon Gatwech and his Deputy Johnson Olony started talks with gov’t delegation where they had stated clearly that they were advocating for full implementation of the security arrangements.
The two senior commanders made it very clear also that they are not going to dialogue with Machar but urged Machar to relinquish his position as country’s First Vice President.
Since then Dr. Riek Machar has never made any statement in respond to such claims made by his former allies.
