Kitgwang Faction not interested in forming a political party or political structures,

Sep 22, 2021 — Clarifying on the recent interview of Lt. Gen. Johnson Olony, which has upset many politicians who joined Magenis based faction with hopes to consolidate their political ambitions, the self-appointed spokesman of the group, Capt. Mabior Garang de Mabior, confirmed that Kitgwang is not ready to form new political structures or a new political party.

According to Mabior, the military leaders are for security arrangements and if their integration into SSPDF will ensure that a unified forces is formed, then be it.

“We are not interested in the formation of new political strutures which will mirror the mischief of the last 7 years under the deposed political administration.” Capt. Mabior said.

“We are not interested in the formation of a new political party at this time. It adds no value to the struggle. The military are trying to create a safe ground on which politics can be played in our land for generations to come. The Kit Gwang Declaration represents a new dawn in politics in our land.” Mabior further clarifies.

Capt. Mabior calls on the public to understand that their cause is solely a military take over that has disposed every politician of SPLM-IO including himself.

“In reference to the above, the public should understand that what has happened within the Movement is a split over values of our struggle. We are in a military take over. Comrades, this is the real regime change – within our Movement. It is not only Dr. Riek Machar who was deposed as the Chairman and Commander in Chief. We who are under his administration were also all deposed with him.” Mabior explains.

“I understand many intellectuals are understandably upset by the statements in which Gen. Olony says, they do not want politicians in Kit Gwang. Unfortunately, this is what happens when there is a military take over.” He added.

“This should not be taken personally by our genuine politicians and revolutionary intellectuals.” He further emphasized.

Mabior believes that a new political party could be hijacked again and therefore the idea of holding onto SPLM-IO was a mistake that should not be continued.

“There are opportunist politicians – the traditional elite – who are poised to hijack the Kit Gwang Declaration and turn it into a poorly thought out agenda for regime change. The premature formation of structures which are irrelevant to the work being administered, is what bogged down the administration of the SPLM-IO over the past 7 years. It made the Movement lose focus on the peace process and lobbying for positions became the order of the day.” Mabior said.

Assuring hopes and stability, Mabior calls on his colleagues not to fight Olony over political ideologies saying it was a miscommunication.

“The interview of Gen. Olony should not be cause for alarm, or taken out of context. The military take over will not last for ever. Let us not fight Gen. Olony politically over a simple miscommunication.” Mabior said.

He calls for patience and assures that with a better security arrangement, all shall fall into their rightful place once again.

“The genuine politicians and revolutionary intellectuals should be patient for the conducive environment for politics.” Mabior continued.

“It is after the implementation of security arrangements that we can have the trust necessary for security to be maintained and socio economic development achieved by our civil population.” He said.

“The Kit Gwang Declaration is not a political party – it is a negotiating position for the recommitment to peace. We assure our civil population that the Kit Gwang Declaration will not promote wars for other people’s children to fight. We call on all peace loving citizens of our nascent Republic, to embrace the principles of the Kit Gwang Declaration – the sincere implementation of Security Arrangements.”  he added.
