Khartoum, Sudan
October 14, 2021—The military-led faction of Kitgwang Declaration under the leadership of the SPLA-IO former Chief of General Staff Gen. Simon Gatwech Dual has denounced rumors that Gen. Gatwech and Gen. Johnson Olony are confined in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum.
This comes less than two days after the ubiquitous information was seen purporting the detention of the two powerful commanders.
In a statement seen by Nyamilepedia, the Press Secretary at the office of the interim Chairman of Kitgwang Declaration, Cde. James Kalany Mamuon refutes the alleged detention of the two senior opposition leaders and dubbed the information as “lies created by peace spoilers”
“The SPLM-IO would like to inform its members and the general public that the above subject is not true but a message fabricated by the enemies of peace”, Kalany clarified in a statement extended to Nyamilepedia.
According to the statement written by Kalany, the leadership of the SPLM/SPLA-IO of Kitgwang are not under house arrest.
“They were here in Khartoum on invitation by IGAD, they are in the Sudanese capital in search of genuine peace for the people of South Sudan”, Kalany added.
The junior opposition official also warned all their members not to entertain any news that are not officially communicated through the authentic channels of Kitgwang Faction.
“The SPLM/A-IO would like to caution our members not to succumb to fake news but to follow the right channels to get their information. This fake news does not even make sense”, Kalany cautioned.
The leadership of Kitgwang Declaration signed a memorandum of understanding early this month with the South Sudan government and agreed to dialogue under the auspice of the Sudanese government who is also a co-chair of the regional bloc, IGAD.
Gen. Gatwech and Olony have made it clear that they are not for regime change but fighting for the full implementation of the peace agreement especially security arrangements which is the most crucial part of the accord.
