August 24th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan government bears – in large part – responsibility for the ongoing deadly conflict in the world’s youngest nation, a former United Nations official said in a statement.

Klem Ryan, a former UN official in South Sudan said in a statement to defense controversial comments he made against President Kiir last week that South Sudan government bears responsibility for the ongoing conflict.

“There has been a large and wide – ranging response to my comments this week about President Salva Kiir and the role of the region in South Sudan,” Ryan said in a statement seen by Nyamilepedia.

“Many Wonder why I  focus on South Sudan and why I single out Kiir for personal criticism. The simple answer is that I hold Kiir ‘s regime in large part responsible for the conflict that has destroyed much of the country and taken a horrific toll on the lives of its people – a conflict which I have personally Witnessed,” Ryan asserted

Ryan who served previously as Coordinator of the Security Council Panel of experts for South Sudan said he personally witnessed the horrific violence of 2013 and the subsequent loss of innocent lives.

“I was present during the massacre in Juba in December 2013, I was in Bor as it was burned by opposition forces, and then saw the atrocities in Bentiu and the destruction of Malakal,” he said.

“Over the past six years, I have worked in the camps of South Sudan’s displaced;  I have traced the arms used in atrocities;  and I have followed the money financing the war and I traced the arms profiteering of the country’s elites.

“This inhumanity and injustice of these events make me angry. They should make all reasonable people angry too.”

The former UN official made controversial statements last week calling President Salva Kiir Mayardit as a “useful idiot” exploited by the region for their own benefit.
