September 17th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s government is able to buy weapons and ammunition to fight war using millions of dollars but cannot provide food which costs less to its starving citizens, a team of United Nations expert said in a report.
The report by the three-member Commission on Human Rights in South Sudan shows no improvements of the situation in South Sudan since the signing of the revitalized peace agreement by president Kiir and opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar.
The report warned that a full-scale civil war is inevitable unless the warring parties takes good measures to implement the agreement in letter and spirit.
“In the military courts that are actually trying to prosecute perpetrators, the judges do not even have ink and paper to print their judgments and have been going to the market to print court documents, paying for it out of their own pockets,” said chair of the human rights commission, Yasmin Sooka.
“This is a government that cannot supply stationery or even food, but has no problem buying bullets,” she added.
