Kiir, visiting Ethiopian and Eritrean leaders to work for peace in South Sudan

March 4th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit, and his Ethiopian and Eritrean counterparts have agreed to collectively work for peace in the world’s youngest nation.

This came following a surprise visit by the Ethiopian Prime Minister, Dr. Abiy Ahmed, and Eritrean President, Isaias Afeworki, who both arrived and left the the capital Juba on Sunday.

In a joint statement following trilateral talks at the State House in Juba,  the East African leaders said they have agreed to work for the collective task of restoring peace and stability in South Sudan.

“The three leaders emphasized the need to continue working together to consolidate peace in the Republic of South Sudan in all ways possible and to seek to coordinate the positions of the three countries on both Regional and Global issues,” said a joint press statement seen by the Nyamilepedia.

The statement further said the three leaders also agreed to work for a full regional integration and to assign foreign ministries of the three countries to work in the advancement of this cause.

“In the course of the discussions the three leader focused on the need to advance the cause of regiona integration and to that end agreed to task their foreign ministers and other relevant government agencies ir the three countries to work out the common projects that will facilitate the attainment of the goal o Regional Economic integration and shared prosperity,” further said the joint statement

The two visiting leaders later thanked President Kiir and the people of South Sudan for “the warm reception and hospitality provided to them and their delegations during their visit to South Sudan.”
