January 1st 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s president, Salva Kiir Mayardit, has called on peace partners to cooperate with him in the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement which has seen setbacks over how to get on with a number of outstanding issues.

Until last week, Kiir has been meeting with SPLM-IO leader and first vice president designate Dr. Riek Machar Teny in the capital Juba to find a breakthrough on the issues  such as the number of states and the security arrangements.

In a statement on Wednesday, the South Sudan presidency said in a statement that “senior government officials, representatives of opposition parties who are signatories to the Revitalized Agreement, diplomatic Corp, and other dignitaries gathered at the State House on 31st December 2019 to mark the New Year Eve on the President Salva Kiir Mayardit’s invitation.”

“The end of the year State dinner is an annual official function organized by the Office of the President for the ending of the year and welcoming of the new one. It is an opportunity where President Salva Kiir interacts with members of his government, diplomats accredited to the republic of South Sudan and other dignitaries,” it added.

It quoted President Kiir as calling upon the people of South Sudan “to embrace peace and reconciliation” as they receive New Year 2020 as they strive for building strong foundation for their young country.
