Juba, South Sudan,
July 17, 2021 – South Sudan’s President, Salva Kiir Mayardit has urged South Sudanese citizens to focus their efforts on development and desist from engagement into divisive political discourses.
The President said after a wasted ten years of independence, it was time for citizens, including political figures, to recommit themselves and play their parts in bringing about sustainable development and capitalize on the new decade.
“Let us not hold each other hostage or delay the development of our country simply because so-and-so doesn’t want so-and-so,” he said. “This will not benefit us.”
Kiir stressed that political issues should not precede the ambitions and welfare of common citizens.
“If you don’t want that person, then just work with the person for the sake of developing the country,” the President said.
Two weeks ago President Kiir said in his face-to-face interview with a Kenyan journalist that the country will not go back to war, a message he repeated in his speech on the 10th Independence Anniversary.
