September 27th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit has urged the army to abide by the ceasefire agreement he signed in June with opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon in Khartoum and to stop attacking rebel forces.
Kiir was speaking at Bilpam, the SPLA General Headquarters during a briefing to the army on the peace agreement signed in Addis Ababa early this month to end the ongoing five-year old brutal conflict according to the South Sudan Presidency.
“The President of the Republic, the Commander in Chief of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) and other regular forces, has called on the army to abide by the peace agreement signed in Khartoum recently,” said a statement by the South Sudan Presidency.
The briefing was also attended by the Minister of Defense, Kuol Manyang Juuk, Martin Elia Lomoro, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Michael Makuei Lueth , Minister of Information as well as top army generals.
The Presidential Press Unit revealed that Kiir warned the army of committing crimes against the citizens threatening them that they will be taken to court of law should any one involve in criminal activities.
“The President of the Republic warned the Army and other regular forces to refrain from committing crimes among citizens, and promised to establish special courts soon to implement strict and urgent sentences against those who commit criminal acts among citizens,” the Presidency said in the statement seen by the Nyamilepedia.
The Presidency further said the President stressed the government’s commitment to implement the peace agreement in order to restore stability to the Country.
