February 26th 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s president Salva Kiir Mayardit has been urged, by Rubkona county community chiefs, to appoint former Rubkona county commissioner, Gen. Ruai Kuol Jal, as the next Unity state governor.
The call came a week after the South Sudanese leader decided to return the country to ten states which has now paved the way for formation of the long-awaited revitalized unity government.
“It is our great pleasure to congratulate the President of the Republic of South Sudan Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit on the return of the country to its original ten States in the interest of peace, we greatly appreciate that,” the group of eight chiefs said in a statement seen by Nyamilepedia.
“We as Rubkona community do hereby requesting your excellency to consider our request to appoint Gen. Ruai Kuol Jal as the Governor of Unity State,” they said in the statement.
The traditional leaders argued that the Gen. Kuol who was previously the SPLM-IO governor of Liech state was a “hard working person who is politically informed and can also be instrumental in creating the initiatives aimed at developing the state and unite the people of Unity State.,”
“…..given the communal differences that occurred during the crisis, he can be able to establish a mechanism that will re-unite the people of Unity State as a whole.”
They said because the Unity state shares border with neighboring Sudan, Kuol, who was a lawmaker at the national parliament prior to the outbreak of the civil war can “play an active role in the border negotiation with Sudan if given an opportunity as a leader in Unity.”
This, they said, is because Kuol is “familiar with all the areas and borders and many more that he can do if given that humble chance to serve the people of Unity State and South Sudan as a whole.”
