November 29th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has left the capital Juba for Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa where he is expected to attend an IGAD summit of heads of state and government, the presidency said in a statement seen by the Nyamilepedia this morning.
“The President of the Republic, H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit and his accompanying delegation left Juba for the Ethiopian Capital Addis Ababa, to attend IGAD summit which is expected to discuss the Revitalized Peace Agreement in South Sudan,” the statement said.
Main armed opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny who is Kiir’s main peace partner is already in the Ethiopian capital. The today’s meeting of heads of state and government is also expected to determine his final status.
He has been on a house arrest since late July 2016 following the collapse of the 2015 peace agreement after fighting broke out between Machar’s guards and a huge force belonging to the president at the presidential palace in Juba.
The two men are also expected to meet on the sideline of the IGAD summit.
