February 14th 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – President Salva Kiir has called for a high-level meeting of the country’s leadership after a consultative meeting conducted today ended with calls to maintain the current 32 states.
In a public letter signed by the minister in the office of the president Mayik Ayii Deng, ministers and security chiefs as well as presidential advisors are requested to attend the meeting.
Kiir is expected to report back to IGAD on Saturday as a five-day break he requested to consult his government is set to expire overnight.
The government and opposition groups – all signatories to the revitalized peace agreement – are required to form a unity government next week.
Opposition groups have said they would not participate in the government unless the issue of states is resolved.
Meanwhile the government has maintained its position saying the controversial 32 states are a popular demand in which the services are taken to the people.
