October 11th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has told General Ochan Puot to exercise self-defense in case of attack by Dr. Riek Machar’s forces.
Last month, General Ochan who has been the SPLM-IO’s deputy commander for Firth Infantry Division declared his decision to abandon Machar and join the government of President Salva Kiir Mayardit.
He accused Machar of directing attacks against civilians in the Greater Maiwut area.
In a meeting conducted in Juba last month with General Ochan and a group of political, military and civil leaders, Kiir told Ochan to exercise self-defense but not to attack Machar’s forces.
“Don’t attack him but exercise self-defense if his forces attack you,” Kiir told General Ochan and his delegation.
