March 7th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit, said on Tuesday that leaders of the ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) party which fractured in December 2013 turned against themselves because they found themselves with external enemies.

Kiir was speaking to hundreds of people during a peace rally in the Western Bahr Al-Ghazal state capital Wau on Tuesday. The rally is one of tens of rallies Kiir is making during his tour in the country’s Bahr Al-Ghazal region.

Kiir who was making an apology to the people of Wau said his SPLM party that is ruling the country turned against itself after they liberated the country during the 21-year long civil war with the Muslim-majority North.

“The same SPLM which fought for the independence is the very SPLM which turned the countries to chaos and anarchy again with members engaged in power struggle against one another,” Kiir told the huge gathering.

He said senior leaders of the former rebel movement had to fight themselves because they found themselves with no external enemies forcing them to fight themselves.

“After the liberation of our country, they found themselves with no one to fight and then decided to turn their guns against themselves,” he added.
