November 6th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s incumbent, Salva Kiir Mayardit, has said the revitalized peace agreement has resulted in many problems for the world’s youngest nation.
Kiir signed a revitalized version of a 2015 peace agreement in September last year with a number of opposition groups including the SPLM-IO led by Dr. Riek Machar Teny.
The agreement hiked the number of legislators from the current 450 to 550. The agreement also increased the number of vice-presidents from current two to five, the first of its kind in the country’s history.
Kiir who was speaking to lawmakers at Freedom Hall in Juba during the opening of the second session of the National Transitional Legislative Assembly (NTLA) said the agreement created an additional number of legislators and many vice-presidents which are all problems for the country.
“This agreement has caused us many problems, increasing the number of legislators and also increasing the number of vice presidents,” Kiir told the legislators.
The South Sudan’s struggling leader further said the country’s minister of finance is to be blamed for the failure to pay the civil servants which sometimes goes beyond six months.
Kiir also blamed the ongoing conflict on government’s failure in delivering development saying a lot of issues have been forced onto the government by the war which has been ongoing since December 2013.
