August 6th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit said on Sunday that the ongoing civil war in his country has left the nation divided and that it has killed many of the people and rendered the economy poor.
Kiir was speaking during the signing ceremony of the final peace agreement which he signed alongside his former deputy and SPLM-IO leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon in the Sudanese capital Khartoum.
Other armed and non-armed opposition groups including the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) and the SPLM Former Detainees who initially declined the agreement also signed the deal.
“We must accept that the internal war has no meaning and has imposed suffering on us and our families and has killed hundreds of our young men and women, destroyed our economy, and left us divided,” Kiir said.
He said he and his government are aware that the country has resulted in financial and political dues for his government.
“My government and I know the conflict in South Sudan has resulted in a financial and political burden,” President Kiir said.
Kiir further appealed to the all the South Sudan leaders, both in government and opposition to respect the agreement so it should be the end of the conflict
“I call on everyone as a leader of South Sudan that this agreement which we have signed today should be the end of the war and the conflict in our country,” he further said.
