November 5th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has reiterated his decision to form the Reconstituted Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGoNU) next week as clock ticks towards November 12th deadline.

South Sudan government and opposition groups are required by the agreement to form a unity government next week but conditions set forth for the government formation are not in place.

While opposition groups want extension of the pre-transitional period to allow for formation of a unified national army, police and national security as well as determination of the number and boundaries of the states, Kiir wants the government formed as scheduled.

Speaking during the opening of the second session of South Sudan’s National Transitional Legislative Assembly (NTLA) this morning, Kiir said he will form the government next week as agreed by the parties in May.

I will form the government next week as we have agreed,” he told the lawmakers at Freedom Hall this morning. “The other issues will be handled by the new government.”

Kiir said he will not vow to pressure from “outsiders” who he said are inciting the opposition to reject the formation of the transitional government as planned.
