May 14th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit, on Tuesday said he has forgiven his main rival, turned peace partner, Dr. Riek Machar Teny.

Kiir uttered the remarks while giving a state of the nation speech to the country’s parliament, the Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA) in Juba on Tuesday.

In his remarks, the president also reiterated his invitation for Machar to return to Juba saying what he all need from Machar is for him to be a kind of a peace partner he wants.

“In the spirit of this agreement, and our experience in Rome, I once more extend my invitation to Dr. Riek Machar to return home,” Kiir said.

“I have completely forgiven him, and all I ask from him is to become a peace partner, for he is no longer my opponent. We have agreed so we have to work together,” Kiir added during the reopening of the parliament.

Kiir’s government and opposition groups including Machar’s signed a revitalized version of a 2015 peace agreement in September last to end the ongoing brutal civil war, which has killed thousands and displaced millions.

He has invited Machar several times to return to Juba to prepare for the formation of the transitional government of national unity.
