May 31st 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit, who doubles as the Chairman of the ruling SPLM faction reportedly wants to excludes his ex-deputy, Dr. Riek Machar from SPLM leadership.

The SPLM which stands for Sudan People’s Liberation Movement fractured into three factions in December 2013 following a disputed national convention conducted in Juba.

They includes the ruling SPLM led by Kiir, SPLM in Opposition (IO) led by Machar and the SPLM-Former Detainees (FDs) led by Pagan Amum.

Dr. Machar who is also the First Vice-President designate per a September peace agreement is a signatory to a 2015 reunification agreement signed in Arusha by the three SPLM factions.

Speaking to the Nyamilepedia on Friday, a party official what preferred to remain anonymous said Kiir would want to see an SPLM party without Machar in its leadership.

“Kiir is looking forward to see Machar away from the leadership of the SPLM party,” the official said.

“That’s why he is working with those in Juba to make sure that people like Machar and Pagan do not return to the party,” he added.

In an interview with Radio Tamazuj on Friday, the ex-Secretary General of the party, Pagan Amum said he gave up his role as the leader of FDs because of ongoing illegitimate procedures ongoing in Juba.
