October 29th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Tuesday reiterated that the Reconstituted Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGoNU) will be formed by November 12th as agreed by the parties in May.
The government and main opposition groups such as the SPLM-IO led by Dr. Riek Machar and NDM led by Dr. Lam Akol are in a dispute on whether the government should be formed in November.
While Kiir wants the government in place by November 12th, Machar and Akol said the government formation should be extended to a later date pending implementation of outstanding issues.
The two men argued that to ensure a stable transition, a unified army, police and national security service should be in place before the unity government is formed.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the South Sudan Presidency said President Salva Kiir Mayardit made it very clear during a meeting with Kenyan special envoy for South Sudan Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka that he will form the unity government on time as agreed in May.
“President Salva Kiir has made it very clear to form the unity government on time with all the parties and signatories to the deal agreement,” the statement by the Presidency quoted foreign minister Awut Deng as saying.
“President Salva Kiir has urged the opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar to be on board for the timely formation of the unity government,” it further added.
