September 27th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s President,  Salva Kiir Mayardiit plans to release ex-Machar spokesman James Gatdet Dak should Machar accepts to attend peace celebrations being organized by the government in the nation’s capital Juba, a senior foreign ministry official told the Nyamilepedia on Thursday.

President Kiir invited his main rival turned peace partner Dr. Machar last week in the Sudanese capital Khartoum to visit Juba for two or three days to attend peace celebrations being organized by the government there.

There is no date mentioned yet for the celebrations but the foreign ministry official told the Nyamilepedia on Thursday that preparations are ongoing for the event.

“President Kiir has a surprise for Machar if he accept to attend peace celebrations in Juba which is being organized. He will release James Gatdet [Dak] If he accept to visit Juba,” the official who preferred to remain undisclosed told the Nyamilepedia this Thursday.

James Gatdet Dak was arrested in late 2016 in the Kenyan capital Nairobi and was deported to Juba the same day where he was put under detention and was eventually sentenced to death in mid this year with hunging.

The foreign ministry official said Kiir has planned to surprise Machar upon arrival if he accepted to visit Juba.

The official however refused to reveal more details into the plan and failed to mention other SPLM-IO officials who were also arrested by the government in Kenya.

Aggri Iddris, a prominent SPLM-IO member and a pro-opposition lawyer,  Dong Samuel Luak are both under the custody of the government but it remains unclear where they are being held.
