November 1st 2018 (Nyamilepedia ) – South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardit, on Thursday met with the leader of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) and discussed issues pertaining to the implementation of the peace deal signed in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa in September.
Lew is in Juba after visiting the South Sudan capital following the celebration organized by Kiir’s government to welcome the September 12th agreement.
Machar, the country’s first vice president designate and leader of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) was also there but had to return to the Sudanese capital Khartoum over security concerns on Wednesday.
South Sudan’s Presidency announced on Thursday in a statement that the opposition leader, alongside his delegation met the South Sudanese President at his J1 office in Juba.
“President Salva Kiir Mayardit met on Thursday with the delegation of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance led by Gabriel Changson Chang,” the statement by the South Sudan Presidency said.
The Presidency further quoted South Sudan’sa cabinet afffairs minister Martin Elia Lomoro as saying “the meeting of the Opposition Alliance with the President was to address issues related to the implementation of the peace agreement.”
Minister Lomoro further said, according to the South Sudan Presidency, that the two parties agreed during the meeting to move forward in implementing the peace agreement to restore stability to the country.
For his part the head of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance, Gabriel Changson, explained that they had “come to Juba at the invitation of the President to attend the peace celebrations” and described their attendance at the ceremony held on Wednesday at Dr. John Garang Mausoleum as a “signal of hope for the people of South Sudan.”
Changson further reiterated that the Opposition Alliance’s commitment to implement the peace agreement in letter and spirit.
