Kiir meets organizing committee for peace celebrations in Juba

October 29th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardiit on Monday met with members of the organizing committee of the peace celebrations due in the capital Juba on Wednesday.
South Sudan President, Salva Kiir and opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon signed the long-awaited revitalized peace deal in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa last month as part of IGAD effort to to end the ongoing civil war which has engulfed the country since December 2018.
Kiir later decided to invite regional and international leaders to Juba for a peace celebration as well as inviting his arch rival turned peace-partner Dr. Riek Machar. Machar, among other prominent members of the South Sudan opposition are also expected in the capital Juba the same day after an initial refusal.
The South Sudan Presidency announced on Monday said President Salva Kiir met this afternoon with the organizing committee led by the Secretary General of the government Abdoun Agau where the president was briefed by the committee.
“This morning at the State House, H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit was briefed by the organizing committee for the national peace celebration ceremony due to take place at the John Garang Mausoleum on the 31st of October 2018,” the statement said.
“Secretary General of the Government of South Sudan Abdoun Agau said the committee reviewed the programme and briefed President Kiir on the progress of the preparation of the forth coming peace celebration scheduled for 31st of this month,” the statement added.
The statement further said Agau appealed to South Sudanese to turn out to witness the peace celebration day which is also expected to be attended by a good number of regional heads of states and international dignitaries.
“Abdun Agau urges all South Sudanese to come witness the great historic celebration that marks an end of the sufferings of the people of South Sudan,” it added.
