June 25th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s incumbent Salva Kiir Mayardiit met today with the Sudanese President, Field Marshal Omar Ahmed Hassan Al-Bashir for a Preparatory meeting with the leader of the main armed opposition, the SPLM-IO, Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon.
Kiir arrived in the Sudanese capital Khartoum on Monday evening for a face-to-face meeting between him and the opposition leader.
A source in Khartoum told the Nyamilepedia that Kiir, whose delegation arrived in the Sudanese capital a day before, met President Bashir at the Presidential palace for a preparatory meeting before he meet this afternoon the former First Vice-President Dr. Riek Machar Teny.
“Yes President Salva Kiir is here in Khartoum, and he just met the Sudanese President and will shortly meet Dr. Riek Machar Teny,” the source said on the condition of anonymity.
On Sunday, a South Sudan government official told the Nyamilepedia that Kiir will travel on Monday afternoon to the Sudanese capital for a face-to-face meeting with Machar.
“Yes President Kiir will travel on Monday afternoon to the Sudanese capital Khartoum after receiving invitation from his Sudanese counterparts, President Bashir, to meet Dr. Riek who have been confirmed to have arrived to the Sudanese capital,” government official told the Nyamilepedia on the cover of anonymity on Sunday evening.
The meeting between the two South Sudanese leaders will be the second of its kind since 2016 when deadly clashes broke out at the Presidential Palace J1 in Juba between guards loyal to each.
Salva Kiir, in a UN report released in September 2016, was blamed by the international community for sparking the violence which displaced Machar to Congo. His former army chief who is currently a rebel leader was also blamed by the UN report which said the violence in July 2016 was orchestrated by the highest authority of the state and the army.
