February 4th 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s president Salva Kiir Mayardit has this afternoon met the governors of the country’s controversial 32 states over the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement and the dispute on the states and their boundaries, the presidency said in a statement this evening.
This comes as a February 22 deadline for the parties to form the long-awaited revitalized unity government approaches amidst skeptism that what would be the Reconstituted Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGoNU) will be formed as agreed in November last year.
“The President of the republic, H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit met with the governors of the thirty-two States plus Abyei on Tuesday,” the presidency statement seen by Nyamilepedia partly reads.
The statement quoted Maridi state governor Africano Mande as saying that they were “briefed by the President on the status and progress of the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement as well as the issue of the number of states and their boundaries.”
He further added that the governors of the Thirty-two States would go back to “consult with the people of their respective states since the creation of the Thirty-two States was a public demand.”
