August 28th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit and main armed opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny will meet in Juba in September, a senior government official said.
In the past, President Salva Kiir had refused to meet Machar outside South Sudan saying there was no reason for him to meet the later outside the country saying his security is guaranteed pointing to presence of other opposition leaders in Juba without fear.
Machar – according to the revitalized peace agreement signed by him and Kiir in September last year – will be the First Vice-President in a power-sharing government due to be formed November.
A senior government official at the Presidency told the Nyamilepedia this morning that Machar will be accompanied by Sudan’s deputy leader of the Sovereignty Council General Mohamed Hamdan Daglo – also known as Hemeti – to Juba.
“He will come to Juba in September in the company of General Mohamed Hamdan Hemeti to meet thew President in Preparation for the transitional government,” the presidency official said.
The official further reiterated President Salva Kiir’s commitment to the revitalized peace agreement he signed with Machar in Addis Ababa.
