December 30th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s president, Salva Kiir Mayardit and main armed opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny will meet during the second week of January in the capital Juba, sources with knowledge said from both Juba and Khartoum.

Last week, Machar who had been in Juba for two full weeks returned to Khartoum after failure to agree with Kiir over how to resolve the pending issues hampering the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement signed by the two men more than a year ago.

Speaking to Nyamilepedia from Juba this morning, a government official said Machar will travel to Juba during the second week of January to negotiate end to current stalemate over the number and boundaries of state.

“The first vice president designate will come to Juba during the second week of January. At this time, the second consultative meeting of the parties will be concluded and the two men will discuss the outcome and how to implement it,” the government official who requested not to be named told the Nyamilepedia from Juba.

For his part, an opposition official confirmed that Machar will return to Juba but said “I am not sure when will that happen, but I am sure he will go to discuss the number of states with President Salva Kiir Mayardit.”
