October 2nd 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – President Salva Kiir and main armed opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar will meet in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa this month, an official said.

The senior government official said the two leaders will meet in Addis Ababa next week in presence of United Nations Security Council members before going to Juba the week after.

“President Kiir and Dr. Riek Machar will meet in Addis Ababa next week in a meeting organized by the UNSC and then go to Juba together,” the official said from Juba.

“The meeting in Addis Ababa will try to address the number of states which is now an obstacle to the government formation,” the official added.

Machar in a circular seen by the Nyamilepedia confirmed that he had been invited to Addis Ababa by the UN Security Council for a meeting and that he had accepted.

South Sudan government and several opposition groups signed a revitalized version of a 2015 peace deal to end the war which began six years ago.

The agreement will see President Kiir and Machar share power as President First Vice President respectively in a thirty-six months transitional period.
