February 9th 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – President Salva Kiir and main armed opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny have both agreed to return to Addis Ababa next week to meet again to try to resolve the contentious issue of states.
Talks between the two men failed this afternoon after the government of President Salva Kiir Mayardit rejected an IGAD proposal which would see the current controversial 32 states to 23.
Speaking to Nyamilepedia this evening, a senior government official said from Addis Ababa that the talks have been adjourned to next week and that the two principals will return to Addis Ababa to try – for the last time before the end of the pre-transitional period – to resolve the issue.
“The talks has been suspended because the government has asked for consultation. Kiir will go to Juba to consult with his government,” the senior opposition official who decided not to be named said.
“Then the two principals will meet on February 15 and then decide the way forward,” the opposition official added.
