December 24th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit and main armed opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny have met and agreed to continue their meetings after the festive holidays according to a senior government official.
The South Sudan Presidential Press Unity said in a statement on Monday that Kiir and Machar met and discussed the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement in the presence of Sudan’s deputy chairman of Sovereignty Council Gen. Mohamed Hamdan Daglo.
“The President of the Republic, H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit met with the opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny and the Deputy Chairperson of the Sudanese Sovereign council Gen. Mohamed Hamdan Hemeti at the State House on Monday,” the presidency statement partly read.
For his part, Presidential Adviser on security Tutkew Gatluak who is also the Chairman of peace implementing National Pre-Transitional Committee (NPTC) said Kiir and Machar will continue their face-to-face meetings after the Christmas.
“The meeting discussed the progress of the implementation of the peace deal prior to the departure of the opposition leader to Sudan,” Tutkew was quoted by the presidency as said.
