December 9th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A meeting of South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit and main armed opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny on the number of states has been set for today in the capital Juba, a senior opposition official with knowledge said.
SPLM-IO director of information and public relations Puok Both Baluang told the Nyamilepedia from the Sudanese capital Khartoum this morning that Machar will travel to Juba this afternoon to meet Kiir over pending issues and specially the issue of the number of states.
“The chairman and commander in chief will this afternoon travel to Juba and meet with President Kiir over the pending issues and especially the number and boundaries of states,” Baluang said.
The two men signed a revitalized version of a 2015 peace agreement in September last year to end the six-year-old civil war which has killed hundreds of thousands and displaced millions.
The agreement called for a unity government formation but with certain issues being met first. These issues haven’t been resolved and it has led to the delay of the government formation several times.
The two men’s meeting is expected to find solution for the outstanding issues such as the security arrangements and the number of states.
