Kiir, Machar starts meeting at state house in Entebbe
November 7th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit and SPLM-IO leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny are meeting at state house in Entebbe before Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and leader of Sudan’s Sovereignty Council Abdel Fatah al-Burhan, opposition officials said.
The meeting, a senior opposition official told the Nyamilepedia from Entebbe, was focusing on confidence-building between the two bitter enemies who are facing a Tuesday deadline for a unity government formation.
“The meeting is now focusing on the confidence-building between the two men,” he said on condition of anonymity.
The United Nations said on Wednesday that the parties to the revitalized peace agreement must first implement all the provisions of the revitalized peace deal before forming a unity government.
The latest UN position contradict an early call for government formation on time as agreed by the parties in May and Security Council delegation in October said they were disappointed by Machar for saying he won’t participate in the government unless the outstanding issues are resolved.
