February 16th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit, and prominent opposition and SPLM-IO leader, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, do not fit to government South Sudan according to a holdout opposition leader.
In September, Mr Kiir and Mr Machar signed a revitalized peace agreement in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to end the ongoing five-year old brutal civil war.
The agreement maintain Kiir as president and his former deputy, Machar will be reinstated back as first vice-president.
In a book review he published on Friday and sent to regional and international community, the Chairman of the holdout People’s Democratic Movement (PDM) Dr. Hakim Dario said Machar and Kiir should not be entrusted with the leadership of the country again.
“The current leaders are not fit for purpose, and should not be entrusted with leadership of South Sudan during any transition period as stipulated in the signed R-ARCSS,” he said. “R-ARCSS needed to be made to work for the people and country and not for the elites of SPLM (IG, IO, FDs, SSOA, etc.).”
He said the power sharing should be between the people of South Sudan rather than the elites mainly from the ruling SPLM.
“Elites power sharing will not work for the country. The solution must be premised on sharing power between the peoples of South Sudan in autonomous three regions of Upper Nile, Equatoria and Bahr al Ghazal,” he added saying “any agreement must put the people first, not the elites first.”
He pointed to the recent report by the enough project that South Sudan has been hijacked by elites sayint “Neither Salva Kiir nor Riek Machar are fit to govern South Sudan during any transitional period. The people and the constitution making process should come first.”
