June 28th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit and prominent South Sudan opposition and SPLM-IO leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon have declared a permanent ceasefire both of them signed in the Sudanese capital Khartoum on Wednesday.
Kiir, in a decree read out on the state-run South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC), declared the ceasefire and instructed his forces, the SPLA-IG to, respect the order.
“I do hereby issue this Republican order for the declaration of permanent ceasefire with effects from 30th June, 2018 and to continue in full operation permanently until otherwise,” partly read the order Kiir signed.
Kiir however urged his forces to remain vigalent and to self-defense in case of attack bu rival forces.
Machar for his part, according to the SPLM-IO director of information Pouk Both Baluang, ordered his forces to respect the declared ceasefire that he and his peace partner, Salva Kiir Mayardiit signed.
Kiir and Dr. Riek Machar Teny signed, on Wednesday, in the Sudanese capital Khartoum a permanent ceasefire agreement that is due to come into force on Saturday night which raised the hope for the end of the almost five-year bloody conflict in the young African country.
The two leaders are expected to meet at the sideline of the African Union summit due for early July in the Mauritanian capital Nouakchott and to meet again in the Kenyan capital Nairobi to further resolve their differences before the two could work again together for the third time in the would-be transitional government of national unity that would see the country administered with three capitals and three vice presidents.
