February 26th 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s president Salva Kiir Mayardit and First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar have called on the internally displaced persons (IDPs) who are living in various UNMISS camps in the country as well as refugees in neighboring countries to return home.

The call was made following the first meeting of the presidency since Machar and four others, were sworn in last week.

“Today, February 26th, 2020, the Presidency of the Republic of South Sudan met for the first time since the appointment of the all five (5) vice presidents last week,” a statement of the presidency said.

It said the meeting was attended by president Kiir, first vice president Machar, vice-presidents James Wani Igga, Rebecca Garang, Taban Deng Gai and Hussein Abdelbaggi.

“The meeting discussed the security situation in Jonglei and greater Pibor area and it has strongly condemned the violence that is taking place in the area,” the statement said adding that the former enemies “have forgiven each other and urged all the South Sudanese also to forgive them and pray for them so we embark on reconciliation, forgiveness and healing of our broken social fabric.”

They further called on “our people in POCs [Protection of Civilians Sites] to come out and for those refugees in neighboring countries to return home and resettle.”

“The Government will do its utmost best to ensure they are supported to resettle in their home areas,” it added.
