Kiir, Machar, Amum and Changson to visit Vatican together in April

March 19th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit, will again visit the Pope Francis in the Vatican for a follow-up meeting in April according to the South Sudan Information, Minister Michael Makuei Lueth.

Another high-profile government official told the Nyamilepedia that prominent opposition leaders,  Dr. Riek Machar, Pagan Amum and Gabriel Changson Chang are also expected to travel with Kiir to the Pope Francis in the upcoming trip.

Makuei said during a press conference this afternoon in the capital Juba that Kiir was invited to the Vatican by Pope with a delegation comprising of prominent personalities he did not identified by names.

“His Excellency is also invited with a delegation that he will nominate to go and attend meetings or what is called a retreat in the Vatican from the 11th to 12th of April so that he can go and have meetings with the concerned bodies and the institutions,” he told reporters on Tuesday in Juba.

Another senior government official who spoke to the Nyamilepedia on the condition of anonymity said SPLM-IO Chairman, Dr. Riek Machar, leader of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) Gabriel Changson Chang, and leader of Former Detainees (FDs) Pagan Amum will also accompany the President.

“President Salva Kiir Mayardiit will go with Riek [Machar], Pagan [Amum] and Changson Lew to meet the Pope in Italy next month,” the source said.
