April 16th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit, has invited his arch-rival turned peace partner, Dr. Riek Machar to Juba to form the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGONU) stipulated for in the revitalized peace agreement.

Kiir and Machar along other opposition leaders signed a revitalized version of a 2015 peace agreement in September last year in Addis Ababa to end the ongoing civil war which has been engulfing the country since December 2013.

South Sudan’s Presidential Press Secretary, Ateny Wek Ateny – said on Tuesday that President Kiir has invited opposition leader Machar to return to Juba on or anytime before the May 12th 2019 dateline so that the two can form the revitalized government.

“The President asked Dr. Riek to come to Juba on or before the 12 of May so that the revitalized transitional government of national unity is formed,” Ateny said.

Last week, in an exclusive interview with Reuters, Machar said in the Italian capital Rome that the parties need an extra six months for the unity government to be formed pointing to the delay in important parts of the peace deal and security arrangements in particular.

Ateny, however, said there is no need for Machar to be concerned by his security arguing that the presence of other opposition leaders in the country’s capital Juba is an indication that there is no threat to his security.

“The opposition leaders are in Juba already, an indication to Dr. Riek that his security will taken care off while the government is formed,” Ateny said.
