July 30th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit, has been invited to the Sudanese capital Khartoum by his Sudanese counterpart Omar Hassan Ahmed Al-Bashir to sign the final peace agreement with SPLM-IO’s Machar on Sunday.
On Monday, a delegation from the Sudanese government led by the Minister of Defense and the head of the National Security and Intelligence Service met the South Sudanese leader at the state house to extend to him the invitation sent by the Sudanese president.
In a statement seen by the Nyamilepedia, the Presidential Press Unit of South Sudan said Kiir had been invited as per a message delivered by the Sudanese delegation which met the President at the state house on Monday.
“President Salva Kiir met with the Sudanese government delegation compromising of the Minister of Defense General Nama Abdul-Latif and Director General of National Security Salah Gosh at the state house on Monday. The Sudanese delegation came to invite President Salva Kiir to attend the signing ceremony that is being organized by the Sudanese government in Khartoum on the 5th of August,” the statement said.
South Sudanese parties on Thursday decided to sign the preliminary power sharing agreement on the resolution of the conflict in the republic of South Sudan with some opposition groups protested and declined to sign saying the proposal did not addressed their concerns.
The agreement was signed by the South Sudan’s government, Machar’s SPLM-IO, South Sudan Political Parties with National Agenda and a splinter group led by the former SPLA-IO Operation General Peter Gatdet Yaka.
South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) – minus the group led by Gatdet)- and the SPLM-IO former political detainees abstained and said the agreement did not addressed one of their important issues: the number of states during the transitional period.
