March 27, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) — South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has this evening formed a high-level committee to coordinate the implementation of the security arrangements.
Based on the revitalized peace deal singed by Kiir with opposition groups in September 2018, opposition and government forces are to be unified to form a professional national army.
The action which was supposed to be done during a 8-month pre-transitional period could not go through due to lack of funds and the needed political commitment from the parties.
In a decree issued this evening, Kiir formed a eight-men committee whose task would be to implement the remaining pre-transitional tasks regarding the security arrangement.
Tut Galuak, who was the chairperson of the National Pre-transitional Committee is to head the new committee named National Transitional Committee (NTC) for coordination of the security arrangements.
The mandate of the National Pre-Transitional Committee (NPTC) ended with the formation of the Reconstituted Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGoNU).
Gatluak who is also the Presidential Advisor on Security will be deputized by the Minister in the Office of the President Mayiik Ayii Deng.
Interior Minister Paul Mayom Akech will be the secretary.
Members of committees will include Par Kuol, Angelina Teny, Salvatore Garang as well as Josephine Lagu. Par is the minister of peace, Teny is the defense minister and Josephine Lagu is the Chairperson of South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA).
The committee shall continue the implementation of the security arrangements which have not been conducted during the last one and half year.
