This comes less than a week after Kiir sacked Deputy Governor of Jonglei State Antipas Nyok Kucha.

In a statement read out on state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC) on Sunday, President Kiir issued a Republican Decree firing James Tor Monybuny as the Deputy Governor of Upper Nile without stating the reason of the removal.

In a separate decree President Kiir appointed Dak Tap Chuol as the new Deputy Governor of the Upper Nile State.

Dak Tap Chuol is a former deputy Governor of Upper Nile state and former Nasir County Commissioner.

Tap will also take over as the Chair of the SPLM-IG party in Upper Nile State by the virtue of his new position and Monybuny will automatically loss the seat from the state.
