October 10th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has discussed with the Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement.

A foreign ministry official told the Nyamilepedia from Addis Ababa this afternoon that the two heads of state discussed the full implementation of the revitalized peace agreement.

Kiir one year ago signed a revitalized version of a 2015 peace agreement with several opposition groups including the Sudan Peoples Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) led by ex-vice president Dr. Riek Machar Teny to end the ongoing civil war.

“The two leaders discussed the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement,” the foreign ministry official said.

“We will make a public statement once the visit which will go on for two day come to an end,” the official further added.

Another source told the Nyamilepedia that the South Sudan leader informed the Ethiopian premier that he will go for the implementation of the peace deal on November 12.

“He informed Dr. Abiy that he will for peace implementation on November 12,” the official added.

The formation of what would be the “Reconstituted Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGoNU)” on November 12 is a matter of dispute between the government and opposition groups.

While the government insists that the government must be formed on that time frame, opposition group such as Machar’s SPLM-IO and Dr. Lam Akol’s NDM – both of which are key signatories to the agreement – wants the action postponed until pending issues such as the establishment of a unified national armed and the number and boundaries of states are solved.

The United States, Britain and other internationals want the government formed after those issues are resolved by the parties.
