June 1st 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A senior opposition official said on Saturday that President Salva Kiir Mayardiit who is a signatory to the revitalized peace agreement didn’t explain why eight months passed without any single achievement.
Kiir along main armed opposition leader, Dr. Riek Machar Teny and other opposition groups signed a revitalized version of a 2015 peace agreement in September last year to end the war.
The agreement provided for a eight-month Pre-transitional period within which all preparations for a unity government due then for last May would be completed.
However, the main armed opposition called for at least six-month extension after the parties failed to move on inch to implement all the preparations.
In an exclusive interview with Nyamilepedia on Saturday, ex-SPLM-IO governor of Sobat state, Duer Tut Duer said President Salva Kiir and the guarantors did not explain why the implementation of the pre-transitional activities was delayed.
“President Salva Kiir and the Guarantors were not asked to give satisfying reasons justifying the delay of implementation of R-ARCSS,” he said.
“There were no reasons given by the Government to explain why eight (8) months passed without achieving a single pre-transitional task regarding the Security arrangements, number of States and the incorporation of the R-ARCSS in the Transitional Constitution,” he added.
He said, given this, South Sudan’s government based in Juba “may again delay the implementation because they know nobody will asked them.”
