May 22nd 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardiit has decried the wasting of resources – both human and materials – supposedly for development on what he said is a senseless civil war.
Kiir was speaking during the 36th anniversary of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) at the army Headquarters in Bilpam on Thursday.
South Sudan in December 2013 descended into a brutal civil war mostly fought along ethnic lines between those supporting President Kiir, an ethnic Dinka, and those supporting his former deputy Riek Machar, an ethnic Nuer.
“We wasted our resources on pasturing unattainable wars when indeed we should be using such resources to build our country,” Kiir said.
“All this time we have been wasting our resources including the human resource on the fight [over] a senseless war,” Kiir added.
“Let us stop it and then we consecrate on the development of our country and then we move forward,” he said.
“We have resources and ability to make a change in our country if we consolidate peace and stability and consecrate more on development,” he added.
During the celebration, Kiir honored long-time serving SPLA leaders for their outstanding service during the liberation struggle.
They includes former army chief, Gen. James Hoth Mai, former police chief, Gen. Pieng Deng Kuol, Gen. Bior Ajang Dout, and Gen. Obote Mamur Mete
