Kiir constitutes ad-hoc committee to investigate Aneet violence.

Juba, South Sudan

February 26, 2022 — South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has issued a republican decree constituting a committee to investigate last week’s violent in which armed youth from Twic County of Warrap State attacked Aneet Market in the disputed Abyei Administrative Area.

In a decree read out on the state-run South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC), President Salva Kiir formed a ten-member committee headed by the country’s Vice-President for Service Cluster Hussein Abdelbagi and deputized by Unity State Governor Dr. Joseph Nguen Manytuil Wecjang.

The committee also includes South Sudan high ranking government officials.

Earlier this month, violence between armed gangs from Twic and residents of Aneet area of Warrap State resulted into the killing and burning of houses and shops inside Aneet sparking condemnation among the country’s citizens.

According to report, about 15 people were allegedly killed while several others were severely injured.
