August 21st 2019 (Nyamilepedid) – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardiit has called the leader of Sudan’s Sovereignty Council and congratulates him on the formation of the 11-member body according the presidency.
Sudan on Wednesday swore in the long-awaited Council which will rule the country for 39 months after which an election will take place.
South Sudan Presidency said in a statement that Kiir called al-Burhan this afternoon and informed him about the importance of the relations between the two countries.
“H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit had a telephone conversation with the President of Sudan’s Sovereign Council, Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan on Wednesday,” the statement partly read.
While discussing bilateral relations between the two countries with the Sudanese military leader, Kiir reiterated the support of Sudan’s southern neighbor.
“President Kiir reiterated that the support of South Sudan to the Republic of the Sudan is driven by a genuine desire to live and prosper peacefully together as brothers and sisters,” the statement said.
For his part, al-Burhan thanked Kiir for “his continuous support to the people of the Republic of the Sudan.”
