Jan 21, 2021(Nyamilepedia) — President Salva Kiir Mayardit openedly shared his congratulatory message to Uganda’s President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on his re-election last week.
In his congratulatory message, Kiir said that Museveni’s re-election is a testament of trust that NRM has earned from Ugandans.
“On behalf of the people of the Republic of South Sudan, allow me to congratulate you on your re-election as the president of Uganda. Your election victory is a testament of trust that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) has earned from Ugandans. As well, it is a sign of their appreciation for the efforts you have made towards developing Uganda for 34 years,” Kiir said in a statement.
The president further said that Uganda is a key partner in the region both in economic and peace support in the region.
“Under your leadership, Uganda has remained a key regional partner, both in economic and peace support in the region. The people of South Sudan are particularly grateful for your contribution to restoration of peace in our country as exemplified by Uganda’s position as one of the peace guarantors,” Kiir added.
He wished Museveni well adding that he hopes that Ugandan’s will walk with him towards achieving greater prosperity for the country.
“I wish you well as you start your new mandate, and hope that Uganda will embrace your vision and walk with you in lockstep as you strive to achieve greater prosperity for the country. We all look forward to working with you on addressing common challenges within our region,” Kiir wrote.
Uganda’s Electoral Commission declared the long-term president Yoweri Museveni the winner after being re-elected for the sixth time.
The polls body said the incumbent, who has been in power since 1986, got a new mandate after he won 58.64 percent of the vote. His closest challenger, Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine), won 34.83% of the vote.
