Kiir concludes Bahr Al-Ghazal tour, returns to Juba

March 13th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit, on Tuesday returned to Juba from touring the country’s Bahr Al-Ghazal region which he started in late February, the Presidency announced in a statement today.

Kiir’s tour to the region, which covered eleven of the controversial thirty-two states there is first phase of three which are not yet to be scheduled. Kiir is expected to visit the Upper Nile and the Equatoria regions soon to enlighten the citizens on peace agreement.

Kiir’s government signed a peace agreement with opposition groups in September last year to end the ongoing five-year old civil war which has killed thousands and displaced millions in the world’s youngest nation.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the South Sudan Presidency announced that the South Sudanese head of state has concluded the tour and returned to Juba on Tuesday by air saying the president is due abroad for a state visit.

“The first phase of the Peace Tour has come to an end,” said the statement by the Presidency. “President Kiir and his accompanying delegation returned to Juba by air because he had to prepare for an urgent trip abroad.”
