October 31st 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit, has blamed politicians he didn’t name for inciting the outbreak of the ongoing civil war in 2013.

Kiir was speaking during a three-day police conference in the capital Juba in which he pledged to support the police forces.

“I want you to welcome your brothers and sisters that are coming to join you from the opposition group and forget all the bitterness which was fueled by politicians in 2013 and 2016,” the South Sudanese head of state said.

“The integration of opposition forces shows that the agreement is going well,” Kiir added

Kiir said the return of peace following the signing of the revitalized peace agreement would facilitate the return of police responsibilities which the country’s police force lost to the army and the national security service.

“The return of peace through the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement and the formation of the revitalized transitional government of national unity restores your responsibility as police to protect our people and their properties,” he said.

South Sudan descended into civil war in December 2013 after a dispute at a national convention of the ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) which was marred in an internal leadership wrangling.

Kiir signed a revitalized version of a 2015 peace agreement in September last year with opposition groups and a unity government is expected by November 12 in which Kiir and SPLM-IO leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny will rule for a duration of 36-months as President and First Vice-President respectively.
